There is such beauty in the meaning and use of these words! Namaste, from Sanskrit, meaning “I humbly bow to you” Aloha, a Hawaiian word for “Love”, that is used as an interjection to express greeting or farewell. And As-Salàmu Àlaykum, an Islamic greeting, defined as “May Peace be on you” How absolutely astonishing, and overwhelming that there exists such miraculous and selfless tidings for another! And how tragic, that they are not used commonly, or even frequently, by the world over!
There is no more unconquered territories upon this Earth! There is no grouping of Peoples that have remained undiscovered! And there are few who could, or would even attempt to argue, that we aren’t all struggling to achieve the same things in this Life, and facing the same basic and/or fundamental issues as every other Human Being upon the face of “our” planet!
How, and/or why is it, that such truly gracious wishes for another can exist, yet we cannot seem to be bothered to even take the time to say “Hello!” let alone offer a greeting or bidding of farewell as precious as “Namaste!” or As-Salàmu Àlaykum or “Aloha!” Are we really SO busy, that we are incapable of taking the fractional measurement of time necessary to share -if nothing else- the implied respect and/or concern for our fellow citizens of the planet that these words offer?
Are we really so unattached, so disassociated, so emotionless, that we haven’t the ability, or sense of urgency, for sharing such simple “wishes” of kindness, one with another? Are we really so afraid to connect with each other, on such a simple yet meaningful level, that such things just aren’t possible? I find it hard, if not impossible to believe, these things to be true… If we can curse and swear at inanimate objects, and profess Love of all things for these same inanimate objects, I find it difficult to accept that such wonderful utterances are beyond our abilities to share with other, LIVING beings, as we come upon one another each day.
If we can make better the Life of another with but a smile, even if only for a moment, consider the change possible by the “casual” usage of such wonderfully connecting and sincere words as Namaste, Aloha, and As-Salàmu Àlaykum!!! How glorious the day might become, having received such pleasant and warm greetings/farewells as these! How beautiful and tranquil our World -and our existence therein- could become with such niceties as common place.
As with, of, and in so much of Life, we bear such great potential… if only we would realize it…
Namaste, Aloha, and As-Salàmu Àlaykum to you all!
